Shereen Shabnam
Today I enjoyed a truly authentic Maltese lunch at Nenu, the Artisan Baker, and it was an experience that beautifully combined flavour, warmth, and heritage.
I began with fresh Maltese bread served with a spread and the most delicious balsamic vinegar I’ve ever tasted—sweet, sticky, and full of depth. Honestly, it was even better than the ones I have tried before, making every bite of bread unforgettable.

For my main course, I chose the Pan-Fried Brown Meager (Gurbell), a fish dish full of character and balance. Cooked to perfection and accompanied by tomatoes, fresh herbs, olives, capers, pickled fennel, and roasted potatoes, it was a plate that celebrated both freshness and tradition.
Dessert was a delightful indulgence: date fritters paired with Maltese ice cream. Comforting, crispy, and creamy all at once. It was the perfect sweet ending.

What stood out just as much as the food was the attentive service. My servers from Malta and India were warm, knowledgeable, and took the time to recommend the very best dishes, which made the entire meal feel extra special.
I left wishing I had met Carmel Debono, known affectionately as Nenu, the founder whose vision clearly shines through in every detail of the restaurant. Dining at Nenu was an immersion into Maltese tradition, served with heart. A truly memorable experience that I will happily repeat.
